Poem - Flower and Butterfly

The butterfly flew around gracefully

Her pink and orange wings fluttering

Swaying towards the yellow flower

Looking more beautiful than ever

“My dear, my love

Remember these words of mine

Hold me tight

Don’t follow the light

And everything will be all right”

He tried to clutch on her

Afraid that she would leave him alone

But he had no rights

His petals stayed in place, too weak to get up

His butterfly flew away

Leaving him with the grass

“My dear, my love

How are you in there?

The new place filled in with fresh leaves

It’s been a long time, I miss you

The vast savanna separates us

I wonder what would happen if I held onto you

The regrets that kept haunting me”

Their little secrets

Their endearing giggles

Replaying inside his mind

It’s time for him to go

The roots that dried away

Yet he hasn’t said his goodbye

“My dear, my love

The rest of my time is not long

Yet you’ve given me no answers

The longing feeling stabbed me like a cleaver

I hope you’ve found your true love with a new flower”

The butterfly that became old

Not saying a single word

Even though it listened to everything

Regretting every single unaccomplished scenes

It flew away, brought by the wind

The story of this poem is about a flower who loved a butterfly, but then, the butterfly left him to another place without coming back until he died. Even though the flower had told her how he felt after she left (every quoted stanzas were the flower's 'messages' towards the flower), she didn't say anything, until she regretted everything after he left this world.

I was inspired by BTS' upcoming song Butterfly! And that's also the reason of why there's a butterfly in my poem. Even though their comeback is now being postponed, the short version of this song has been lingering around the world of Internet.

Even though a part of this is a metaphor, I also took the flower and butterfly with their literal meanings. For example, how he couldn't clutch on her because a typical flower's petals wouldn't be able to get up on their own.

However, at the end, he decided to let her go, even though it meant that the butterfly would fall in love with another flower.

My favorite part would be this one:

“My dear, my love

Remember these words of mine

Hold me tight

Don’t follow the light

And everything will be all right”

For me, the flower's messages sound really sweet. For this message, it says that the flower tried to tell the butterfly that she shouldn't follow the light that showed the outside world from their garden or place, but unfortunately, at the end, she did. And notice that every one of the messages begin with the phrase 'My dear, my love'.
